Access to affordable healthcare services for those who need it most is a necessity for Virginia Beach and the entire commonwealth. As a delegate, Cheryl voted to expand Medicaid access for over 400,000 Virginians -- but there’s still so much left to be done. We should ensure that everyone can afford to see a doctor when they’re sick.
Women’s Reproductive Rights
Cheryl supports women having complete access to reproductive healthcare, including contraception and the right to choose. Women’s healthcare decisions should be made between her and her doctor. Government restrictions that take rights away from women cannot be tolerated.
Gun Violence Prevention
As a gun owner, classroom teacher, and parent, Cheryl understands the urgency of common-sense gun laws that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. These rules are key to keeping our community safe, and the Virginia Senate is so important to this process.
Quality of Education Programs
Classroom experience has given Cheryl a thorough understanding of the resources needed to improve the quality of education for our students, which include increasing teacher pay, investments in technology, and much more.
Equal Rights AMENDMENT
In 2017, Cheryl helped to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment, a long overdue amendment to the constitution to ensure “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.” A society in which all citizens have equal rights is an integral part of the American identity, and these rights needs to be protected by law.
Teaching her students about the impact humans can have on the environment (and vice versa) for decades has given Cheryl both academic expertise and practical experience. She knows what’s needed in terms of legislation and community education to ensure that Virginia Beach is a clean, healthy place for people to do business and raise their families for years to come.
